Let Us Begin!

With autism, there is such a variety of special needs and abilities that your child has and you have to remember that they are individual. There is never going to be a standard “one-size-fits-all” method of homeschooling that specifically works for all homeschoolers. It is important to remember that your homeschooling experience will be unlike any other. Just as no two children are the same, the same applies to homeschool. No two homeschooling families are the same.

Homeschooling starts with good planning. Homeschooling provides individual instruction and opens up the potential for your child to learn concepts far more quickly than in a standard classroom full of distractions. It offers a level of customization and flexibility that you won’t be able to find in any standard school system. You must provide structure in your homeschooling. This will help against having your child feeling bored and struggling to make it through each day.

While organization and planning are a major part of any homeschooling journey, homeschooling is also about “balance”. It is important to remember that with homeschooling there is an advantage of complete flexibility in regards to daily schedules. This empowers homeschooling parents to create a customized schedule to determine when their children will receive instruction and be able to achieve their daily goals. With good planning and taking advantage of the flexibility that homeschooling has to offer, it will help give you a good idea to determine what can or can’t be added into your routine.

You will want to find your methods to keep your daily homeschooling and living routines consistent, simple and easy to maintain. The best part is that everything is kept in its proper place. A method that is too complicated will frustrate you and your child and will eventually lead to a cluttered mess, so focus on creating a system that is easy and balances out well for you and your child to use. If something isn’t working, you can adjust it accordingly to a method that will work. Your child will also learn the lifelong structure and organizational skills and will continue to successfully use them independently in their daily lives.

Having a very strong appreciation for systems of the organization when it comes to everything in your home, especially homeschooling, allows you to quickly organize everything from books, supplies and other things in your household accordingly. You will find that this will be extremely beneficial as you will be able to have access to things quickly and easily and find exactly what you need. At one point or another in our lives, we all misplace really important things and it can be chaotic. At the start and middle of your homeschooling year, commit an entire day to organize your homeschooling materials and supplies. You have to be realistic in terms of your space at home to figure out how much you need. The time that is devoted to good organization skills will result in fewer frustrations of time wasted for you and your child throughout the homeschooling year searching for items around the house. You will have more time to focus on learning and make for a very fulfilling day.
